Respect in Action
For Students:
Respect means showing kindness, care, and consideration for yourself, others, and the school community. At CMS, students can show respect by:
- Listening when others are speaking.
- Using polite words and actions toward peers, teachers, and staff.
- Taking care of school property and keeping spaces clean.
- Valuing differences and treating everyone fairly.
For Parents:
Families help set the foundation for respect. You can support your student by:
- Modeling respectful language and behavior at home.
- Talking about the importance of treating others the way they want to be treated.
- Encouraging empathy by asking, “How would you feel if that happened to you?”
- Praising respectful actions you notice in your child.
Together, we can help our Pirates create a kind, caring, and respectful community!

This year’s Week of Respect theme is “Respect: The Missing Piece That Makes Us Whole!” Just like a puzzle, every student and staff member is an important piece of our school community. When we treat each other with kindness, fairness, and understanding, the picture comes together perfectly.
Throughout the week, CMS will celebrate with special activities:
-
Homeroom Puzzle Pieces: Each homeroom will design a large puzzle piece that shows how they represent respect. The pieces will be displayed together in the hallway as a schoolwide puzzle.
-
Dress-Up Days: On Monday, October 6, students are encouraged to wear blue in honor of World Bullying Awareness Day. On Thursday, October 9th, we’ll finish the week with school spirit- wear your Pirate Gear!
-
Cafeteria Puzzle Activity: Students can sign up throughout the week to help put together grade-level puzzles during lunch.
-
Unapologetically Kind Campaign: Staff will have the chance to nominate students who show acts of kindness and respect toward others. Nominations will be collected through a Google form, and we look forward to highlighting these students for making CMS a more positive place.
Respect is the piece that connects us all—together, we complete the picture!

At CMS, we want to keep our students healthy and learning in a safe environment. Recently, we’ve noticed an increase in behaviors that raise hygiene concerns—such as students sharing water bottles, touching each other’s food, and general issues related to coughing, sneezing, and the spread of germs.
We are asking families to help us by reinforcing the importance of healthy habits at home. Together, we can encourage our students to:
-
Avoid sharing water bottles, food, or utensils.
-
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow.
-
Wash hands regularly and use hand sanitizer when available.
-
Respect personal space to help reduce the spread of germs.
-
Practice good personal hygiene, including wearing deodorant and bringing it to school to reapply on gym days.
With your support, we can work together to keep our school community healthy and safe. Thank you for helping us remind our students of these important daily practices!

Just a friendly reminder that our homeroom period begins at 8:02 AM. Any student arriving to school at 8:02am, or after, will be marked late. Numerous late arrivals can result in a consequence such as afterschool detention. If your CHILD is the reason for being late, talk to us for ways to help. If you are the reason they are late, we hope you will make whatever changes necessary to have your child here on time.
Additionally, we thank our drop-off families for adhering to the right-turn only when leaving the front driveway. When the weather is poor and we have a huge amount of parent drop-offs, it will greatly assist with the traffic flow, getting students into the building in a quicker manner.
Lastly, when dropping off, please do not pull around a car dropping off in front of you. It is one single line of traffic in the front loop. If you are in a hurry, it is recommended to pull over on Forklanding Road and allow your child to exit the car and be crossed by the crossing guard. This request is for the safety of our students, staff, and other drivers. Thank you for your cooperation!

Head lice are common among school-age children, but they’re not dangerous. With regular checks and early treatment, they can be managed quickly and effectively.
Why Parents Check, Not Schools
- School screenings often miss early cases and disrupt learning.
- Regular at-home checks are the best way to control lice.
- The school does not conduct routine or mass head lice checks. Parents are advised to check their children regularly at home and notify the school nurse if head lice is found.
|
- Look weekly, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.
- Signs include live lice or scalp irritation (redness, scratching).
- If unsure, apply white hair conditioner to dry hair and comb with a fine-tooth nit comb. Wipe on a white paper towel and check in good light.
After Treatment
- Continue daily combing with conditioner for up to 4 weeks.
- Only treat when live lice are confirmed—never “just in case.”
- Follow package directions carefully and rinse medicine over a sink, not in the shower.
|
|
✅ Check hair weekly.
✅ Use conditioner + nit comb if unsure.
✅ Notify the school nurse if lice or nits are found.
❌ Don’t assume dandruff, sand, or hairspray flakes are lice.
❌ Don’t rely on school screenings.
Reminder: CMS does not perform head lice checks. Regular at-home checks are the most effective way to prevent lice from spreading.

Our Fall Sports teams have been off to a strong start, and this past Thursday CMS hosted five home events—Girls A & B Soccer, Field Hockey A & B, and Cross Country. Great job, Pirates!

CMS celebrated Pirate Pride Friday with plenty of energy and excitement! During all four lunch periods, our administrators hosted lively rounds of trivia, and students had the chance to win gift cards to Taco Bell, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ Donuts. A big thank you to CEHASA for funding our Pirate Pride gifts for students and staff through the spirit wear sales from Back to School Night! Your support helps keep the Pirate spirit strong at CMS!
