Our January focus at CMS is Empathy—the ability to understand and care about the feelings of others. The start of a new year is a great time to reflect on how our actions impact those around us and how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Empathy in Action
For Students:
Empathy means understanding and caring about the feelings of others. At CMS, students can demonstrate empathy by:
- Listening respectfully and being mindful of others’ perspectives.
- Showing kindness through words and actions, especially when someone is having a tough day.
- Offering help, encouragement, or a friendly smile to classmates in need.
- Thinking before speaking and choosing words that uplift rather than hurt.
For Parents:
Families can help nurture empathy by:
- Encouraging children to share their feelings and listen to others without judgment.
- Modeling empathy at home through patience, understanding, and compassion.
- Talking about how words and actions affect others.
- Sharing stories or real-life experiences that highlight kindness and understanding.
Together, we can encourage our Pirates to start the year with compassion, support one another, and help make CMS a caring community where everyone feels valued.

Our music department filled CMS with holiday cheer! 🎶✨ Our choral students delighted us with beautiful holiday songs, while our strings, band, and jazz band members put on a spectacular winter concert. Thank you to all our talented students for sharing your music and spreading joy this season!” |
Rain didn’t stop the holiday cheer! ☕🎶 Our Unity Club hosted a wonderful holiday breakfast for the senior citizens of Cinnaminson, serving a delicious meal catered by the Bagel Cafe. Our jazz band, CSS, and dance team provided festive entertainment, making it a perfect way to kick off the holiday season and end 2025 on a high note! |
With the new year underway, we’d like to share a few helpful reminders to ensure a positive and successful winter sports season at CMS:
-
Sportsmanship Expectations: We ask all parents, guardians, and fans to model positive sportsmanship at all athletic events. Please show respect to officials, coaches, players, and opponents at all times. Positive cheering is encouraged; negative or confrontational behavior is not permitted.
-
Travel Release Forms: If your child will not be returning home on the team bus after an away contest, a Travel Release form must be completed prior to the event. Digital Travel Release forms are available on the CMS Athletics webpage. Please be sure to complete the form under the correct team link. Students will only be released to individuals listed in the Genesis Parent Portal unless prior approval has been granted.
-
Game Schedules: All schedules and updates can be found on the CMS Athletics website through Arbiter Sports. Families are encouraged to download the free Arbiter “Activity Scheduler” app for real-time schedule updates and weather-related changes.
Thank you for your continued support of CMS Athletics and for helping us create a positive, respectful environment for all student-athletes.

January is recognized as Braille Literacy Month in the United States, and January 4th is celebrated internationally as World Braille Day, honoring the birthday of Louis Braille, the inventor of the braille code.
While many people associate braille with blindness, it benefits a wide range of individuals with visual impairments, including those with dual sensory loss or multiple disabilities.
Braille Literacy Month highlights the power of braille to transform lives, break down barriers, and create a more inclusive world. Promoting braille literacy ensures that people with visual disabilities can fully participate, learn, and achieve their potential.
Braille is more than a system of raised dots—it’s a gateway to independence, knowledge, and endless possibilities. Let’s celebrate its importance and work together toward equal access for all.
