Our February focus at CMS is Perseverance—the ability to keep going even when things feel challenging. As winter continues and the school year moves forward, this is a perfect time to remind our Pirates that effort, determination, and a positive mindset can help them overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.
Perseverance in Action
For Students:
Perseverance means not giving up when something feels hard. At CMS, students can demonstrate perseverance by:
- Trying their best, even when work is challenging or mistakes happen.
- Asking for help and using feedback to improve.
- Staying focused and committed to goals in the classroom, clubs, and activities.
- Encouraging themselves and others to keep going.
For Parents:
Families can help nurture perseverance by:
- Encouraging children to keep trying and reminding them that mistakes are part of learning.
- Praising effort, progress, and determination rather than just outcomes.
- Helping children set small, achievable goals and celebrate growth.
- Modeling perseverance by showing resilience when facing challenges at home.
Together, we can support our Pirates as they learn that perseverance builds confidence, resilience, and success—both in school and beyond.

This February, the CMS community proudly joins schools and communities across the nation in celebrating Black History Month, marking 100 years of recognition and reflection since its founding in 1926. Black History Month was created to honor the history, accomplishments, and lasting contributions of Black Americans whose leadership, creativity, innovation, and courage have helped shape our nation and our world.
At CMS, we remain committed to fostering kindness, respect, and understanding among all of our Pirates. Throughout the month, students will engage in classroom activities, discussions, and spotlights highlighting influential leaders, artists, scientists, educators, and change-makers — both past and present. These learning opportunities encourage students to appreciate diverse perspectives and recognize the importance of equity, empathy, and inclusion in our school community and beyond.
As we celebrate this meaningful milestone year, we are reminded of the power of education and unity. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.”
We are proud to honor the voices, achievements, and cultural impact of the Black community — this month and every month — as we continue working together to build a future rooted in respect, learning, and kindness for all.

CMS Athletics is partnering with the Language Arts Department to host a school-wide book drive benefiting Book Smiles. BookSmiles gives new life to gently used books by distributing them to children and educators, helping to promote childhood literacy, inspire a love of reading, and strengthen communities. Through this initiative, we aim to support BookSmiles’ mission of ensuring every child has access to books—fostering imagination, empowering readers, and transforming communities through literacy.
Collection bins will be located outside the Main Office and in the Gym Lobby.

National School Counseling Week is celebrated the first full week of February and recognizes the vital role school counselors play in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. This year’s theme, “School Counselors Amplify Student Success,” highlights the powerful impact counselors have in helping students thrive in school and plan for the future. We are grateful for our amazing school counselors—Mrs. Emig-Tait, Mrs. Luecke, and Mr. Sinn—for the guidance, care, and support they provide our students every day. 💙 |
Next Thursday, CMS will proudly host our annual Volley for Heart game on February 5, 2026, continuing a tradition of over 16 years supporting the American Heart Association. This event brings our school community together for an exciting night while raising funds for a great cause.
One of the biggest ways we support the American Heart Association during this event is through our Concession Stand, featuring our fan-favorite item — Walking Tacos! To make this possible, we are asking for donations of supplies, food items, pre-packaged snacks, candy, and homemade baked goods.
Families who are able to donate are asked to please sign up using the link provided
If you have any questions, please email onaln@cinnaminson.com.
The CMS Unity Club will be hosting its annual Soup-er Supper for Cinnaminson’s Senior Citizens on Wednesday, February 11th, and we are asking for your support to help make this special event a success.
This year, we are kindly requesting donations of soup, desserts, and crockpots.
All donations may be dropped off to CMS the day of the event.
Thank you for helping our students spread kindness, unity, and community spirit.
We truly appreciate your generosity and support!

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common, brain-based condition that affects how individuals regulate attention, behavior, and emotions. ADHD is highly genetic and involves differences in brain development and functioning, particularly in areas responsible for executive functioning skills such as attention, focus, organization, impulse control, motivation, memory, and emotional regulation.
Research has shown that the ADHD brain processes information differently. Certain areas of the brain, including parts of the frontal lobe, may mature later in individuals with ADHD, while regions involved in emotional regulation and impulsivity can function differently as well. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 7 million children (11.4%) in the United States ages 3–17 have been diagnosed with ADHD.
ADHD Presentations and Diagnosis
ADHD is diagnosed by a qualified healthcare professional and is categorized into three presentations:
- Predominantly Inattentive
- Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive
- Combined Presentation
To receive a diagnosis, symptoms must be present before age 12, occur in more than one setting (such as home and school), interfere with daily functioning, and not be better explained by another condition. Diagnosis is based on careful evaluation using established clinical guidelines, not through a single medical test.
Supporting Children with ADHD
ADHD can be successfully managed with the right supports in place. Treatment plans are individualized and often include behavior therapy, medication, or a combination of both. Collaboration among families, healthcare providers, and schools plays a key role in helping students succeed.
At home and at school, children with ADHD benefit from:
- Consistent routines and clear expectations
- Organizational supports and structured environments
- Positive reinforcement and goal-setting
- Opportunities for movement and regular breaks
- Strong communication between home and school
The ADHD Butterfly Symbol 🦋
While orange is the official color for ADHD awareness, many individuals also connect with the rainbow butterfly symbol, which is inspired by the neurodiversity “rainbow infinity” symbol. The butterfly represents the way ADHD minds often move quickly from one thought to another, as well as creativity, growth, and transformation. For many, this symbol reflects both the challenges and the unique strengths associated with ADHD.
With understanding, patience, and appropriate supports, students with ADHD can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Celebrating strengths, building confidence, and providing structure help ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
