Our March focus at CMS is Respect—showing care, kindness, and consideration for ourselves, others, and our school community. As we move into the busy spring months, it’s a great time to remind our Pirates that respect helps create a safe, positive environment where everyone can learn and grow.
Respect in Action
For Students:
Respect means treating others the way you want to be treated. At CMS, students can demonstrate respect by:
- Using kind and appropriate words.
- Listening when others are speaking.
- Valuing differences and including everyone.
- Taking care of school property and shared spaces.
- Following classroom and school expectations.
For Parents:
Families can help reinforce respect by:
- Encouraging open conversations about kindness and empathy.
- Modeling respectful communication at home.
- Supporting positive problem-solving when conflicts arise.
- Reminding children that their words and actions impact others.
Together, we can help our Pirates build a culture of respect that strengthens our school community and supports success for all.

Dear CMS Families,
Spring sports physicals for the 2025-2026 school year will take place after school at CMS on Wednesday March 4th at 2:35 PM. Physicals will be conducted by our school physician, Dr. Wiseman, and are free of charge to students. Students may take the late bus at 3:35 PM or arrange for parent pick-up. To secure an appointment, students must submit a hard copy of the completed sports physical packet to the school nurse (Mrs. Black) or the Main Office by Friday, February 27th. Students cannot turn in the paperwork the morning of physicals as it needs to be reviewed.
The sports physical forms can be found here on the athletics website for those students using our school physician. Students may pick up paper copies in the Main Office or Nurse’s Office. The History Form (Pages 1 and 2) must be completed and signed by both a parent/guardian and student. The Athletes With Disabilities Form must be completed, if applicable. Please include the student's name, date of birth, and current grade on all pages. Dr. Wiseman will complete the Physical Examination Form and Medical Eligibility Form. Please submit the entire packet if your child is planning on seeing our school physician.
Note: The Health History must be fully completed or the physician will not be able to conduct the physical. Any student who wants to try out for a fall sport must have a valid sports physical within the past 365 days.
CMS Spring Sports (Grades 6–8):
- Track 6-8
- Baseball 7-8
- Softball 7-8
- Girls Lacrosse 6-8
Our registration process for all sports teams can be found in the Genesis Portal on the athletic page. Registration will open on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Instructions on how to register your student, and a “How to Video” can also be found on the page to guide you through the process. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Meile, Athletic Director at meilej@cinnaminson.com.
Thank you!

💧 Hydration & Headaches
We’ve seen an increase in students visiting the health office with headaches. One common cause — especially during colder months — is dehydration. Students often aren’t drinking enough water throughout the day.
Mild dehydration can lead to headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. In many cases, increasing water intake and getting rest helps symptoms improve.
Did you know?
- Thirst is a late sign of dehydration.
- Students tend to drink less water in cooler weather, even though their bodies still need it.
How families can help:
- Encourage students to bring a refillable water bottle daily
- Remind them to drink water consistently throughout the day
- Limit sugary and caffeinated drinks
- Support good sleep habits, since fatigue can also contribute to headaches
If headaches are frequent or severe, please contact your pediatrician and notify the health office so we can support your child at school.
🕒 Daylight Saving Time Begins Next Weekend
A friendly reminder that clocks “spring forward” next weekend. The time change can leave children (and adults!) feeling a little extra tired as their bodies adjust.
To help with the transition, consider moving bedtime 10–15 minutes earlier a few nights ahead of time, keeping evening routines calm and consistent, limiting screen time before bed, and getting some morning sunlight.
Most students adjust within a few days. If sleep concerns continue, please feel free to reach out to your healthcare provider or the school health office.
Thank you for helping our students stay rested and ready to learn

Throughout March, CMS proudly celebrates Women’s History Month—a time to honor the achievements, contributions, and impact of women throughout history and in our world today. From leaders in science, education, government, athletics, and the arts to the women who strengthen our own community each day, their influence continues to shape our future.
At CMS, we encourage our Pirates to learn about inspiring women who have broken barriers, demonstrated courage, and created positive change. This month is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of equity, leadership, perseverance, and respect.
Families can join the celebration by exploring books, documentaries, and conversations at home that highlight the stories and accomplishments of women past and present.
Together, we celebrate the women who inspire us and empower the next generation to lead with confidence and courage.

March is a time to recognize and promote the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities in all areas of community life, while also acknowledging the barriers they may still face. At CMS, we are committed to fostering understanding, empathy, and meaningful peer relationships so all students feel valued and included.
Developmental disabilities are lifelong conditions that may impact physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. These include ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, hearing or vision impairments, and learning or intellectual disabilities. In fact, about 1 in 6 children in the United States has a developmental disability.
Families can support awareness by modeling person-first language (for example, “a child with autism”), encouraging respectful interactions, and promoting empathy and acceptance. When choosing books or discussing disabilities, look for resources that highlight inclusion, respect, realistic portrayals, and the message of “one of us,” not “one of them.”
Together, we can continue building a school community rooted in understanding, dignity, and respect for all.
